Rayat-Bahra Ropar Campus celebrated Basant Panchami, worthy Campus Director Sir Dr. Suresh Seth along with Director/Principals of all respective Institutes paid their obeisance to the Goddess Sarswati to have blessings of their staff and students for prosperity and wonderful health.
Worthy Campus Director Sir inaugurated the event by flying the kite high symbolically depicting to stay connected to the ground while flying high reaching destination. He expressed to the audience that Basant Panchami marks on set of spring and Goddess Sarswati- The deity of knowledge music, Art, science and technology – was born on this day and people worship her to achieve wisdom. The goddess is worship so that she may bestow the gift of knowledge to her devotees. One popular folklore that's associated with the festival is that of the legendary poet Kalidasa. Kalidasa was a simpleton and was tricked into marrying a princess who didn't respect him. A dejected Kalidasa tried to take his life but just before he could commit suicide, the goddess Saraswati appeared in front of him and asked him to take a dip in the river. The man did as he was told, and emerged from the water an intelligent, knowledgeable and cultured person, who would eventually become a renowned poet. Which is why on this day, the goddess is worshipped so that she may bestow the gift of knowledge to her devotees.
The students participated in various competitive activities like kite flying, Essay writing. In kite flying: Mr. Amrinder Singh – Rayat College of Law won the first prize and Mr. Honey – Rayat College of Law won 2nd prize and the best theme on kite - Beti Bacho Beti Padho was won by Mr. Kamaldeep –Rayat Polytechnic College. In Essay writing Ist Prize won by Tanya Mahajan – Engg. Student of CSE 6th sem, 2nd prize won by Mr. Sazid Ali Engg. Student of 4th sem and 3rd prize won by Depikha Thakur , Rayat College of Law. Campus Director awarded the prizes to the winners and many consolation prizes distributed to the participants
