  • One Day Workshop on 'Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)' by Mr. Rahul Taneja, Scientist, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Haryana

    Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Rayat-Bahra, Ropar Campus organized one day workshop on "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)" for the students and faculty members of the campus. Mr. Rahul Taneja, Scientist, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Haryana was the Chief Guest and delivered keynote speech on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

    Hon'ble Campus Director Dr. Suresh Seth addressed the gathering and welcomed the Chief Guest and other speakers of the event. Dr. Suresh Seth also highlighted the importance of such type of programmes and appreciated the department for the conduct of this workshop.

    Dr. Ajay Goyal, Director/Principal given the brief introduction about the program. More than 300 students and faculty members of the campus attended the workshop.

    The session began with floral welcome of chief guest accompanied by Lamp Lightening Ceremony. Mr. Taneja started the session by enlighten the students about what are Intellectual property Rights (IPR) including Trademarks, Copyright, Patents, Industrial design rights, and in some jurisdictions trade secrets. He discussed the basic differences between patent, copyrights, trademarks etc. This knowledge was helpful in the future reference for the students and faculty members. The afternoon session was taken by another two speakers namely Dr. Manisha Narula and Dr. Akashdeep Singh (Assistant Professors, Rayat College of Law). Dr. Manisha Narula covered the topic "Law of Patents and Traditional knowledge of India". She made the students aware about how the foreigners are using our traditional knowledge and taking benefits in a long run. She gave us an example of turmeric how the foreigner tried to take the patent and wanted to get benefit from our traditional knowledge, since we do not have any documented proof about traditional knowledge, so others can take benefit out of it. She made the students aware about the importance of traditional knowledge of the indigenous communities, known to the World. After she completed her talk, the session was continued by Dr. Akashdeep Singh on copyright issues in cyber space. As technology creates new opportunities it also poses new challenges. Copyright is most complicated area of cyber law and facing greatest challenge.

    He addressed the basic issues of cyber space and ways to handled them. This one day workshop has motivated the faculty and students, also guided them and encourages them to file patents and secure their future to a great extent. Dr. Harish Kundra , Workshop Coordinator and Head of Department delivered vote of thanks.
