  • *13th National technofest Minerva - 2017 kicks off at Rayat Bahra*

    National technofest “Minerva 2017” kicks off at Rayat Bahra ROPAR: A two-day Annual Convention of Indian Society for Technical Education, Punjab, Chandigarh, HP and J&K Section, ‘Minerva-2017’, got off to a grand start at the Rayat Bahra Ropar Campus on 2nd nov., 2017. It is the 13th edition of the festival which comprises of various technical events, creative competitions and talent-oriented cultural performances.

    The convention was inaugurated by the Dr NP Singh, Dean (Planning and External Programs), IKG Punjab Technical University, in the presence of Hon’ble Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman, Dr Suresh Seth, Campus Director, and Dr Ajay Goyal, Joint Campus Director.

    Dr. NP Singh appreciated the hard work put in by all the organizers for this tech-fest. He was effusive in his praise for the achievements of the Rayat Bahra Group. He stressed on the qualities of excellence, teamwork and focused mind to take on the challenges of 21st century. He reiterated the urgent need for universities and educational institutions to include skill development courses in their syllabi. He said universities and colleges must impart education that is employable and create job opportunities.

    Around 5,000 engineering and management students from about 100 institutes in the region attended this mega event which is being celebrated on the theme of ‘Endowing Wings to Imagination for Creating a Better Tomorrow’.

    After the captivating Inaugural function various techo-cultural events started with great enthusiasm at different venues in the institute. More than 45 events were organised in technical, literary and cultural events on the first day including technical paper presentation, solid edge modeling, lathe modeling, death race (remote control car race), truss bridge construction, civil engineering model making, landscaping, CAED drawing, C language coding, IT quiz, web design, logo design, circuit debugging, technical treasure hunt, technical dumb charades, solo singing, general quiz, pick and speak, dumb charades, group dance, anthakshari, selfie contest, solo dance, mock press, tom dick and harry, debate, bluff master, face painting, and photography contest.

    Speaking on the occasion, Hon’able Chairman S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra said. “Minerva-17 shall encourage and motivate the budding technocrats to tread on the path of success bearing the wings of hard-work, determination and dedication. He exhorted the teachers and faculty members to put their heads together for giving a scientific and technological dimension to the education world for carving the future of the students.

    Worthy Campus Director Dr. Suresh Seth welcomed the dignitaries and participants to Minerva-17. He said that technology was evolving at a very fast pace these days. If budding technocrats and professionals do not keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in their field, they can’t make a place for themselves in this fast changing competitive world. He stressed that it always takes time for the latest to enter the textbooks being studied by the students. Hence, the role of such tech-fests is enormous since they broaden the knowledge base of the budding technocrats.

    The students of the campus performed traditional Punjabi folk dance and enthralled the audience.

    ISTE Section Award Distribution Ceremony was also conducted during inauguration ceremony in which 27 Best Student Award Recipients, 18 Faculty Members and 11 Best B Tech Project Innovators from various institutes were honored by the dignitaries. Rankit Goyal & Rohit Rana from Rayat Institute of Engineering & Information Technology developed a software Detection and Prevention of Faulty Railway Tracks using Image Processing and won the Best Project Award in Information Technology.

    Charu Rana, Gaurav Sandhu, Shubham, Mandeep and Manjeet Singh won prizes for their innovative projects.

    Performance by Star Cast of upcoming Punjabi film Sardar Mohammad was the attraction of the day.
