The Rayat Institure of Engineering and Information Technology at Rayat Bahra Ropar Campus celebrated the National Education Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Abul Kalam Azad, on 11 Nov 2014 by hosting a seminar on Recent Advances in Nanomaterials. Prof. Keya Dharamvir, an eminent scientist and former Coordinator for Nanotechnology, University Institute of emerging areas in Science and technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the expert speaker of the day. The seminar was inaugrated by Dr. P. Thareja, Director, RIEIT. In his inaugral address he reinstated the words of Sh. Azad that it is the birth right of every individual to receive at least the basic education to discharge the duties as a citizen and that the need of Safety and 'Swachta' in modern day scenario, and how education of technology provide a good platform to achieve this objective. Emphasising the need of right alignment, awareness, and attitude development he further delibrated the idea of making education safer through a disaster risk reduction approach and for adopting the Campaign to "Child's Right to Safer and hygienic Schools, where wastes are managed.
Prof. Dharamvir addressed the need to adopt and encourage STEM based approach in school education. She enriched the young student community in an highly interactive session on the emerging ideas and recent advances in the field of Nano materials and how these tend to change the world in future. The students were provided with some hands on exercises to be solved during the seminar to familiarize them with the basic concepts & principles in the field of nanosciences and nanotechnology.
